In their debut LAFW show – held at the gorgeous W Hollywood Hotel – genderless fashion brand Private Policy channeled its’ fierce New York roots to bring the theme of powerful women to the runway. Focusing on specific social issues is part of the brand’s ethos and throughout their 8 year history, they’ve covered topics ranging from enslaved fishermen to the rapid development of AI technology.
The show was titled “POWERFUL WOMEN – Portrait Series II” and celebrated women who are leaders in their fields – from CEOS to athletes to artists. Inspired by a powerful quote from Ruth Bader Ginsburg that states “Women belong in all places where decisions are being made,” Private Policy spotlights “influential and highly respected female leaders from LA communities.” (Quoted from show’s program) As each model graced the runway, a portrait was taken of them against a white backdrop, sending the message that as pioneers in their industry, they are worthy of recognition. Within the collection, designers Siying Qu and Haoran Li featured leather trench coats and dresses, denim jackets, and classic stilettos, attaching a rebellious edge to traditional workwear.

The show balanced its rebellious edge with a more athletic, casual look that seemed to be an appeal to a younger generation – combining sporty speakers, leg warmers, and lighter colors.
