Los Angeles Fashion Week, presented by Art Hearts and Design the District, showcased an eclectic blend of some of the most stunning collections we’ve encountered recently at the magazine. Despite a stylistic divergence between the shows, ranging from black-tie formal wear to urban streetwear, the designers imbued each garment with heart, soul, and boundless creativity. Friday’s shows primarily featured Ukrainian designers, offering a captivating glimpse into their distinctive aesthetic sensibilities. Meanwhile, Saturday’s lineup introduced a delightful surprise with models strutting the runway alongside cute poodles and beagles, injecting a playful energy into the event. It was a season brimming with variety, ensuring there was something to captivate every observer.
In the forthcoming paragraphs, we’ll delve into our top picks from each evening, detailing their standout features and what made them particularly memorable.
OverTheSea
Among our standout favorites from the lineup is the enchanting showcase by OverTheSea, helmed by the visionary designer Kseniia Kramarenko. Renowned for collaborating with luminaries of the entertainment industry, including the likes of Florence Welch, Kramarenko brought her signature ethereal aesthetic to the forefront. The collection exuded a captivating blend of nymph-core, bohemian flair, and romanticism, all executed with a remarkable restraint that allowed each piece to shine without unnecessary embellishment.

Another standout presentation came from L’eskizzo, a brand renowned for its focus on tailored feminine suit wear. Their showcase featured an array of impeccably structured, repurposed garments, embodying a fusion of elegance and modernity. The collection offered a sophisticated reinterpretation of the classic office siren aesthetic, exuding grace and refinement. Utilizing a minimal color palette, L’eskizzo expertly allowed the intricate details of each piece to take center stage, resulting in a display that was both striking and timeless.

In a similar vein to L’eskizzo, Vivons presents a modern interpretation of the Femme Fatale archetype through their collection. Characterized by a bold color palette of black, white, grey, and vibrant red, their showcase exuded cohesion and sophistication. What truly set this collection apart and made it one of my personal favorites was the incorporation of a simple yet striking detail throughout the rose motif. Whether subtly integrated as delicate accents or prominently featured as focal points, the rose took center stage in various forms, adding an alluring and dynamic dimension to the ensemble.

One of the event’s highlights was the much-anticipated showcase by Anthony Rubio, a designer whose work our team holds in high regard. What made this presentation particularly special was our shared love for adorable animals. As the models graced the runway, they were accompanied by the true stars of the show: rescue dogs showcasing dog couture alongside them. From petite chihuahuas to elegant poodles, a diverse range of breeds added charm and vivacity to the proceedings. It was a joyous affair where the synergy between the clothing, models, and dogs created an unforgettable spectacle that delighted all in attendance.

One of the early highlights that diverged from the prevailing elegance was Richard Hallmarq’s show, capturing a classic Narcissist aesthetic that resonated with our team. Departing from convention, the collection embraced trends like the no-pants pants trend and revealed more skin, injecting an element of allure and playfulness. Predominantly black with occasional pops of color, such as an iconic bright yellow leopard print catsuit and a sleek grey hoodie, the collection exuded a sense of fun and sexiness that perfectly aligned with the ethos of Narcissist. It was a refreshing departure that added dynamic energy to the evening’s proceedings.

Among the two bridal designers showcased that evening, Royal Lily Boutique stood out with a breathtaking display of designs catering to brides of the upcoming season. Created by Libyan native Luejn Libab, the collection offered a diverse range of styles, from grand classic A-lines to ethereal gowns embodying a mystical fantasy aesthetic. Each gown was meticulously crafted with modern twists and intricate pearl beadwork, adding a touch of sophistication and allure. As the models glided down the runway, the white gowns shimmered with an undeniable allure, leaving a lasting impression of elegance and grace.

The second bridal show of the evening was presented by Kenneth Barlis, and it was an absolute delight from start to finish. The inclusion of not just one, but two plus-size models, alongside two handsome men confidently strutting down the runway in iconic light pink floral dresses, earned the brand high praise for diversity and inclusivity. The infectious energy and joy exuded by the models were palpable, leaving the participants and the audience thoroughly entertained. Furthermore, the collection showcased an eclectic array of styles, featuring bridal and formal wear from previous collections, adding depth and variety to the presentation. Overall, it was a fun and stunning show that left a lasting impression on all who attended.

One standout of the season was the presentation by designer Coral Castillo, whose remarkable talent has garnered recognition from various Vogue magazines, including those in the UK, Mexico, Turkey, and the Netherlands. Additionally, Castillo’s accolades include being the winner of STITCHED Episode 5, further solidifying her position as a rising star in the fashion world. The highlight of her collection was undoubtedly the breathtaking macramé pieces, which exuded an undeniable goddess-like allure. Pairing simple base layers with intricate macramé overlays showcased Castillo’s exceptional artistry and attention to detail. As the models showcased these stunning creations on the runway, the audience was captivated, with all eyes focused intently on the collection, mesmerized by its beauty and craftsmanship.

Kentaro Kameyama’s presentation offered a modern tribute to the revered Japanese geisha tradition, blending elements of modesty with contemporary twists, including the no-pants pantless trend. The collection artfully incorporated snake prints in a black, white, and beige palette, paying homage to Kameyama’s cultural heritage and rich history. As the winner of Project Runway season 16 and a classical pianist, Kameyama seamlessly fused tradition with modernity, creating pieces that resonated with both elegance and innovation. The collection served as a harmonious celebration of Japanese culture, where tradition sang in perfect harmony with the demands of the modern world.

The grand finale of LAFW featured a live presentation by the Black Tape Project, renowned for its innovative approach to swimwear. Each “bikini” was meticulously crafted using sheen black biker tape adorned with studs, creating an immersive experience that celebrated the beauty of the female form. What set this presentation apart was the inclusion of models with diverse body types, and the strategic placement of the tape emphasized the natural curves and contours of each individual. While the removal process may have posed a challenge for the models, their participation added to the iconic nature of the event, leaving a lasting impression on all who witnessed it.
