On the fourth day of LA Fashion Week, Luis de Javier bewitched the sartorial set with his Spring/Summer 2024 offering, “La Ruta.” It was an assemblage marked by an intoxicating mix of the queer and the dark, a tantalizing, villainous nod to raver culture, infused with a celestial dichotomy of heaven and hell. Horns, floor-sweeping gowns, and razor-sharp nails conjured images of a sartorial underworld, each piece a devilish whisper brought to life.
Corsetry, a continuous thread from previous seasons, wove its way through the collection, this time reimagined in unexpected mediums—leather, canvas, and notably, latex. De Javier’s dedication to craftsmanship led him to English factories, where he honed the art of latex design, culminating in a standout piece: a latex coat that embraced the form with the ease of a second skin, shoulders exaggerated in a dramatic cascade.
The collection’s audacity extended to its use of bling—chains, cords, and the surprising repurposing of ballerina nails into a fringe that adorned asymmetrical gowns, epitomizing evening wear with a subversive twist. Embracing his former hesitations, De Javier ventured into jersey, resulting in statuesque t-shirt dresses that daringly recontextualized the Pirelli logo into a provocative statement.
Under the tutelage of Riccardo Tisci, De Javier’s aesthetic evolved, with the mentor’s influence apparent in the collection’s measured color scheme and the meticulous melding of lace with leather, all brought together with cinched waists. As models, donning masks and capes, strode to the pulsing rhythms of LSDXOXO, they charted a rebellious path through the collection—a sartorial rebellion where club culture meets haute couture with unparalleled panache. DARE I SAY IT was GIVING, “CUNT!”
